It started with the artistic side, the flips and tricks, of martial arts for Michelle Waterson. But after trying Muay Thai while visiting family in Thailand, she quickly realized that fighting could be more than a hobby…it was what made her feel alive. She soon decided that she needed to pursue her passion for fighting far more than a college degree and traditional life, which led her to Albuquerque and the UFC.
Since committing to this path, Waterson has earned the Invicta FC Atomweight Champion title and ranked as the #1 women’s atomweight fighter in the world between 2013 and 2014. She’s now #7 in the strawweight rankings. But most importantly, she’s achieved her success on her own, relying solely on hard work and dedication to carve out her place in the UFC and make a career out of her passion. Doing it on her own means being thoughtful about how she fuels her body and knowing that no matter what, shortcuts aren’t an option.
